Prometheus Hyperscale, a US data center firm, has obtained the necessary planning approval for its planned campus in Wyoming. Last week, the company announced that it had received a unanimous conditional use permit approval from the Uinta County board of commissioners for its main data center campus near Evanston.
The corporation announced that the 506-acre property will initially provide 1.25GW, with the possibility of increasing to 5GW. The construction is expected to commence within six months of obtaining the final permits, and the entire 5.3GW campus is anticipated to be developed in stages within 48 to 60 months. “This unanimous approval indicates the robustness of the project’s basics and the extensive community engagement we have established in Uinta County,” stated Trevor Neilson, the president of Prometheus Hyperscale.
Prometheus, initially launched in 2020 and known as Wyoming Hyperscale Whitebox, was rebranded in September 2024. The company from Wyoming originally intended to construct a 120MW facility at the location in 2020. The planning and zoning commission of Unita County approved the project last month in a meeting with numerous attendees.
Prometheus stated that the campus in Evanston will function as an independent microgrid, producing electricity on-site via natural gas engines and turbines. Removing the connection to the public utility grid will get rid of ‘interconnection queue exposure and ratepayer impact as regulatory risks,’ as per the firm.
The organization is also working on another project in Wyoming – the 1.25GW Falls Ranch near Casper, in collaboration with Casper Carbon Capture. The company is working on a site in Dallas, Texas, alongside Engie. They have previously expressed interest in campuses in Pueblo and Fort Morgan, Colorado, and Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, but the current state of these projects is uncertain.
Prometheus has received investment from In-Q-Tel (IQT), a CIA-backed venture firm. Further details can be found in Construction & Site Selection. Den 27 mars 2026.
