OpenAI released updated GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna models, expanding its GPT-6 lineup with lower pricing and broader availability across ChatGPT products and its API.. The company said the 6 series versions of Sol and Luna will cost half as much as the 5.6 series for API access, which it attributed to improvements in caching and inference..
OpenAI introduced GPT-6 Astra earlier this month as its most capable model and said the new Sol and Luna versions extend that generation with a focus on efficiency and accessibility.. Sol is positioned for more complex work such as coding, while Luna is aimed at higher-volume clerical tasks such as document summarization, information extraction and quick question answering..
OpenAI said the new models are more factually accurate and make fewer coding errors than earlier versions.. “On our internal factuality evaluation, which is based on de-identified real-world conversations where users flagged mistakes by our models, GPT-6 Sol makes about half as many mistakes as its predecessor, reaching Astra-level reliability at much lower cost,” the company said in its announcement..
OpenAI also said GPT-6 Sol and Luna outperform Anthropic’s leading models, including Fable and Opus, on multiple tasks.. Anthropic released Opus 5.5 about 90 minutes before OpenAI’s update.. The new Sol and Luna models are available in ChatGPT Work and Codex for most paid accounts and through the ChatGPT API.
Luna is also available in the desktop app and for Free and Go users, while OpenAI said rollout across the ChatGPT app and website will continue through the day.. Featured image credit. Tags: FeaturedopenAI
