Equinix has launched a data center in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n

The company officially opened HK6, its sixth International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in the Tsuen Wan area of the Chinese territory, this week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

With an initial investment of US$124 million, Equinix said HK6 can host up to 1,000 racks in its first phase. The facility will be able to host up to 3,550 racks at full build-out across 41,600 sq ft (3,865 sqm).<\/p>\n

The 18-story facility is located at 18 Sha Tsui Road, within 2km of HK1, 2, and 3. Equinix first announced plans for the facility in 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Joanne Hon, managing director, Hong Kong, Equinix, said: \u201cEquinix has been a trusted partner in Hong Kong over the past 25 years, supporting every major transformation in the city\u2019s digital evolution, from the rise of interconnection to cloud, hybrid architectures, and now AI.<\/p>\n

“Representing our single largest investment in Hong Kong over the past decade, HK6 is a clear testament of our long\u2011term commitment to this market and our conviction in its trajectory.\u201d<\/p>\n

The purpose-built facility is equipped with liquid cooling to handle high-density workloads.<\/p>\n

HK6 includes an open testing environment where enterprises and startups can build, test, validate, and scale AI applications across a neutral, efficient hybrid and multi-cloud environment.<\/p>\n

Equinix entered Asia in 2002, acquiring i-STT and Pihana Pacific, the latter of which opened a data center in Hong Kong in 2001. Equinix\u2019s HK2 launched around 2011.<\/p>\n

According to Equinix\u2019s latest earnings presentation, all six of the company\u2019s Hong Kong facilities are leased. HK2, 3, 4, and 5 are all listed as stabilized.<\/p>\n

The company added liquid cooling capabilities to HK1 in an upgrade alongside Schneider Electric last year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
