Electrical systems manufacturer ABB has launched a pre-engineered, modular synchronous condenser package designed to help data center operators manage grid stability amid AI-driven growth in power demand.. The company claims its new package addresses power fluctuations associated with AI workloads at the grid connection point, providing instantaneous inertia and dynamic reactive power to stabilize voltage and frequency in real time.. The fully integrated solution combines a synchronous condenser, flywheel, starting system, lube-oil system, cooling options, e-house, and optional noise enclosure in a standardized package. The flywheel is designed specifically for electrical network stabilization and includes an integrated safety enclosure, removing the need for additional safety barriers. ABB says the single-source delivery across mechanical, electrical, and control systems reduces on-site complexity and shortens installation timelines.. For operators, ABB claims that the package offers faster time to operation through its modular design, simplified grid approval by addressing stability requirements upfront, and scalable capacity growth without requiring core power system redesigns.. “As data centers become increasingly widespread and AI-driven demand increases, grid stability is becoming a fundamental requirement for ongoing expansion,” said David Bjerharg, business line manager for high-speed synchronous at ABB. “This solution enables operators to connect faster, operate reliably from day one, and scale with confidence.”. Over recent years, ABB has significantly expanded its data center offering through a series of acquisitions. In February, the firm acquired Irish electrical engineering consultancy Premium Power to expand its advisory capabilities within the data center market.. Before this, the company acquired IPEC, a UK specialist in electrical diagnostics. In the same month, it acquired a minority stake in OctaiPipe, a UK-based AI firm focused on optimizing data center cooling systems.. More in Grid Level. 16 Feb 2026.
