The UK government has formally announced the appointment of Sir Ian Cheshire as Ofcom’s new chair. Ofcom is the UK government’s regulator and competition authority for the broadcasting, telecoms, internet and postal sectors. The government selected Cheshire as its preferred candidate for the new chairmanship back in April, announcing that he would serve a four-year term. He previously chaired Channel 4 for three years, a role he held until April 2023. He also served as the boss of Kingfisher, the owner of B&Q, for six years. He succeeds former BBC chair Michael Grade, who left the position at the end of April.
