Cubbit and GigaCloud partner to bring cloud services to Poland and Ukraine

Italian cloud services firm Cubbit has announced a partnership with Ukrainian cloud operator GigaCloud.. The agreement is intended to enable both firms to collaborate in equipping organizations in Poland and Ukraine with sovereign, cost-effective, and resilient cloud services.. As part of the deal, GigaCloud will deploy Cubbit’s software-defined storage program, DS3 Composer, across its data center network.

DCD has approached both firms for comment.. – GigaCloud. “We are proud to bring our technology to Ukraine and support the country at a moment when the resilience of digital infrastructure has never mattered more,” said Cubbit’s co-founder and co-CEO, Stefano Onofri.. “Together, we [Cubbit and GigaCloud] are giving Ukrainian and Polish organisations something new to these regions: a geo-distributed storage infrastructure that keeps strategic data protected and always available — distributed across multiple trusted countries by design, so that even in the most demanding conditions, data remains online and in the hands of those who own it.”.

Founded in 2016, Cubbit claims to be the world’s first geo-distributed cloud storage enabler. The firm’s software allows customers to encrypt, fragment, and distribute their data across multiple sites, even when the data centers storing that data experience severe disruption..

It was for this reason, said Cubbit, that it prioritized an agreement with GigaCloud, given the targeting of data center facilities by Russia in its ongoing war with Ukraine and the increasing demand among customers in the latter to store their data in compliance with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation.. This will now be enabled for GigaCloud’s customers via its deployment of DS3 Composer throughout its data center network, said Cubbit.

Customers would also benefit from complete tenant isolation and a ‘single intuitive interface’ that would unify control of data across multiple environments.. Headquartered in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, GigaCloud operates five data centers supporting three availability zones across Ukraine and Poland and is a subsidiary of GigaGroup..

Last year, its sister company, the data center operator GigaCenter, announced that its workers had composed music based on the humming of servers at one of these properties.. Relative to Poland, the Ukrainian data center market remains small, with 36 facilities listed on DataCenterMap compared to 110 in its northwestern neighbor..
