A new data center could be coming to Birmingham, Alabama.. – City of Fairfield. Officials in Fairfield, Alabama, recently announced that a colocation data center development is being proposed in the city.. Full details haven’t been shared, but the city will have an open town hall later this month to share more details about the project..
Fairfield is a city in western Jefferson County, a suburb to the west of Birmingham. Though none are located in Fairfield, existing operators in the wider Birmingham area include DC Blox, Nebius, US Data Centers, and QTS.. In the open letter to residents, Fairfield Mayor Herman Carnes, Jr. emphasized that “not all data centers are the same.”.
“The project being considered for Fairfield is a colocation data center, not a hyperscale data center campus. That distinction matters,” he said. “That does not mean this proposal should receive less scrutiny.
It means it should be evaluated based on its own facts, not assumptions from unrelated projects elsewhere.”. More in Construction & Site Selection. 10 Jul 2026.
