Flex acquires data center power conversion manufacturer EPC Power in $4.4bn deal

Singaporean manufacturing firm Flex has agreed to acquire EPC Power, a North American designer and manufacturer of power conversion equipment for data centers, energy storage, and microgrids, for a reported $4.4 billion.. – EPC Power. The deal, which is subject to regulatory approvals, is expected to close sometime in Q4 of this year.

Once complete, EPC will operate as a business within Flex’s Cloud and Power Infrastructure segment, building on an existing collaboration between the two companies.. EPC is a developer of 800V data center power architectures, including digital rectifiers and solid-state transformers, aimed at higher-density AI infrastructure.

Flex said the acquisition extends its power and thermal management portfolio into what it calls an integrated “grid-to-chip” offering.. Founded in 2021, EPC Power has been backed by Goldman Sachs Alternatives and Cleanhill Partners, which have served as its controlling shareholders..

Commenting on the acquisition, Jim Fusaro, CEO of EPC, said: “What we accomplished over the last four years demonstrates the power of strong partnerships and a shared commitment to innovation. Together with Goldman Sachs Alternatives and Cleanhill Partners, EPC Power emerged as a US technology leader in power conversion solutions that enable the next generation of data centers, AI computing, and grid modernization.

We expanded our domestic manufacturing footprint nearly tenfold, strengthening America’s industrial base and reinforcing the critical role of US innovation in powering the future economy. This is only the beginning of what EPC Power can accomplish.”. Flex, headquartered in Singapore, is a contract manufacturer supporting customers across a range of industries, including data center power and cooling infrastructure.

The company has separately announced plans to spin off its Cloud and Power Infrastructure portfolio, under which EPC will operate.. Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC and J.P.
