WhatsApp Business can now be configured by AI agents

Meta said on Tuesday it will let AI agents set up and manage WhatsApp Business messaging for companies through a new WhatsApp Business Tools MCP server.. The new tool connects AI coding agents such as Claude, Cursor, Codex and ChatGPT directly to the WhatsApp Business Platform, allowing developers to configure services by describing what they need in chat..

Meta said the process previously required developers to move between the Developer Console, Meta’s Business Manager, API references and their editor.. The company said the new MCP server is designed to handle setup tasks including creating a company’s WhatsApp Business account, adding and verifying a phone number, registering the business for access to the Cloud API and checking Terms of Service requirements..

Meta said businesses will also be able to use AI agents to create or edit messaging templates, test messages and webhooks, and monitor issues involving Terms of Service status, payment methods and Business Verification.. The launch expands Meta’s existing lineup of MCP servers beyond tools for managing ads, monitoring app configurations and other social technologies, to one focused on onboarding businesses to WhatsApp..

Meta said its Meta Social Technologies MCP server can also be used during setup and configuration to discover API endpoints, search documentation and troubleshoot errors.. Meta announced the update alongside new AI-focused subscription plans. It said other companies including PayPal, Stripe, GitHub, Notion, Slack, Salesforce, Atlassian, X, Google and Microsoft also offer MCP servers that let AI agents interact with their services..
