Talkiatry Scales Employed Therapy Nationwide Across 50 States and 170M Lives

The information you need to be aware of. Talkiatry, a prominent virtual behavioral health organization, has announced the expansion of its psychotherapy services throughout the United States. This move brings together in-network therapy and psychiatric care in all 50 states, demonstrating the company’s clinical prowess as the largest private employer of psychiatrists in the country.

Talkiatry directly employs over 400 full-time therapists and more than 800 full-time psychiatrists, ensuring clinical collaboration and care continuity without relying on 1099 contractor gig models. The company’s high multi-state credentialing density, at 85%, means that the majority of its employed therapists possess active clinical licenses across multiple states, simplifying post-pandemic licensing issues for patients who relocate, travel, or commute across state lines.

Talkiatry’s recent capital and partnership acceleration, from $210M Series D to AMGA Network Integration, further supports this expansion. The launch of the countrywide therapy program signifies the beginning of a significant expansion period, which is supported by Talkiatry’s $323 million Series D funding round that was completed this year (with Perceptive Advisors leading the way).

The recent funding round has strengthened Talkiatry’s financial position, enabling them to develop AI-enhanced medical practices and establish a comprehensive network for delivering care. In addition, this growth leverages Talkiatry’s collaboration with the American Medical Group Association (AMGA), which provides healthcare services to a significant portion of the US population through its affiliated institutions and medical groups.

Talkiatry is the preferred in-network outpatient behavioral health partner for over 70 major health systems, including almost a third of the top 20 health systems nationally. This allows hospital networks and ACOs to have a direct, zero-cost referral destination, eliminating behavioral health boarding in emergency departments and primary care suites.

The company has completed over 4 million patient visits and maintains in-network commercial payer contracts covering more than 170 million lives across over 100 insurers. The collaborative clinical architecture drives retention and positive outcomes. Unlike 1099 contractor marketplaces which consider therapy and psychiatry as separate, transactional goods, Talkiatry employs an integrated, full-time employment approach.

Collaborative Multidisciplinary Care Groups: Psychiatrists and therapists utilize a single electronic health file and a custom AI-guided clinical process system. Therapists can identify medication side effects, treatment non-compliance, or developing issues and inform the treating psychiatrist.

Psychiatrists can also reinforce specific cognitive-behavioral strategies during monthly medication check-ups. This integrated approach has a quick impact: Talkiatry found that patients seeing both a Talkiatry therapist and psychiatrist stay connected to care twice longer than those receiving just psychiatric medication management.

The therapy alliance is quickly established, with nearly 85% of Talkiatry therapists building a positive relationship within the first 30 days of treatment. This helps to address the high early-stage dropout issue in virtual behavioral health platforms. The coordinated model has been shown to reduce psychiatric hospitalizations by 68%, lower emergency department visits by 32%, and result in an estimated $700 net medical cost savings per member per month.

Dr. Georgia Gaveras, Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of Talkiatry, noted the challenges of telehealth: “It made mental healthcare more accessible, but it also created a haphazard approach to treatment.”
