The former architect for Google’s Global Internet Edge and CDN network infrastructure has joined SpaceX.. Paul Schultz left Google last year after a nine-year stint at the company. He separately worked at Google for eight years from 2005, as well as two-and-a-half years as the director of network engineering at PlayStation Now.. – SpaceX. “After successfully avoiding all forms of employment for the last year or so I came across something way too interesting to pass up,” Schultz said.. “I’m excited to announce that as of today you can call me Principal Network Engineer at SpaceX, where I’ll be working on Starlink Backbone / Edge networking and xAI infrastructure.”.
SpaceX says it operates approximately 9,600 Starlink broadband and mobile satellites and plans to begin deploying next-generation V3 satellites later this year, with up to one terabit per second of downlink capacity.. The company acquired xAI earlier this year, and has leased a portion of its data center capacity to Anthropic and Google..
The combined business hopes to deploy up to one million satellites as a data center megaconstellation, with the company detailing the AI1 satellite design earlier this week.. SpaceX plans to go public this Friday, June 12.. 22 Jan 2026.
