Foxconn signs 1GW renewable deal with Brookfield in Vietnam

Foxconn, one of the world’s largest electronics manufacturers, has signed a deal with institutional investor Brookfield to develop up to 1GW of renewable and battery energy storage capacity in Vietnam.. – Getty Images. The partnership will invest in utility-scale wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems, underpinned by a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

The tenor of the PPA and when it is expected to come into effect were not disclosed.. Brookfield’s investment in the partnership will be made through its Catalytic Transition Fund, which focuses on investments within the energy transition space in emerging markets, such as Southeast Asia.

The fund has already made several investments into the Vietnamese market, including a 100MW wind project in central Vietnam.. The renewable capacity is expected to support Foxconn’s expansion within Vietnam, where it already has a significant production presence.. Commenting on the news, Daniel Cheng, managing partner and head of energy for APAC at Brookfield, said: “This partnership underscores the scale of corporate demand for renewable power in Vietnam and reflects a broader trend we are seeing across Asia Pacific: as manufacturing, digital infrastructure, and electrification drive demand for power, corporates are increasingly seeking reliable, cost-competitive clean energy solutions to support their growth.”.

The investment is Brookfield’s latest within the clean energy space. Within the US market, it has signed two large-scale deals with hyperscalers Google and Microsoft. In July, the firm inked a 3GW hydro power deal with Google.

Before this, it signed a 10GW energy framework deal with Microsoft.. Foxconn (formally Hon Hai Technology Group) is an electronics manufacturer and tech solutions provider based in Taiwan. Recent estimates put it at 40 percent of all consumer electronics sold globally..
