Hyperco files to build another data center in Kouvola

Hyperco, a Nordic data center firm, is planning to construct another data center in Finland. According to local media outlets like Yle and Kouvolan Sanomat, the company has applied for permission to build a second data center in Koria, Kouvola. A visualization of a Hyperco campus can be found on their website.

An application for a permit was submitted earlier this month. Hyperco is planning to construct a two-story data center with a total capacity of 219MW across 22026,202026 sqm (22026,208 sq ft). The Kouvola Technical Committee will evaluate the permit application on Tuesday, June 22026.

Hyperco has requested permission to commence construction before the building permit is issued, as it is easier to build foundations before the ground freezes in winter. Kouvola, located in Finland, serves as the administrative capital of Kymenlaakso and is 135km (83 miles) northeast of Helsinki, the Finnish capital.

Hyperco’s initial data center in Koria started construction last year and is expected to be completed by May 2027. Developed concurrently with DayOne, the intended purpose of the site is to cater to TikTok. A subsequent data center will be situated on an adjacent piece of land.

Established in 2020, Hyperco was purchased by Edgnex, the data center division of Dubai-based property developer Damac, in April 2025. They bought their inaugural data center from Finnish family investment group TS-Yhtymä for over €35 million ($083m) in 2022. Originally, the 16,900 square meter (181,900 square foot) building in Vantaa was occupied by two longstanding renters: Equinix and Thales.

Hyperco is currently engaged in projects throughout Espoo, Pyhäjoki, and Lohja. Another site associated with Hyperco is located in the Voikkaa industrial zone of Kouvola. Your subscription to the EMEA newsletter series is appreciated.
