Microsoft purchases 100 acres next to existing data center campus in Goodyear, Arizona

Microsoft has purchased more land in Arizona.. The company has bought an additional 100 acres of land next to its existing 150-acre data center campus that is currently under development in Goodyear, Maricopa County, as reported by CoStar.. Microsoft’s campus near Citrus and W Indian Road – Google Maps.

The land was acquired for $131 million, a significant increase from the transaction for a previously purchased 150-acre property, which in April 2019 went through for $37.11m.. The land is located near Citrus and Indian School roads, and was purchased from Chicago-based First Industrial Realty Trust.

Including other previous purchases in the area, this brings Microsoft’s footprint to more than 550 acres.. The tech giant declined to comment on its plans for the property to CoStar; however, its proximity to the existing development suggests it will likely be used to expand the data center campus, which, according to CoStar, currently has six data center buildings either existing, under construction, or proposed..

Microsoft is also developing a data center campus in nearby El Mirage, also part of Maricopa County. The company filed to expand that campus in November 2024, bringing its number of data center buildings to five.. Microsoft launched its West US 3 Azure cloud region – based in Phoenix – in June 2021.

The first building at the site launched in 2021.. Goodyear is located just west of Phoenix.. In Goodyear specifically, operators include Vantage, Compass, Stack, QTS, and Prime..

Operators in the wider Phoenix area include Polish software firm Comarch as well as EdgeCore, Meta, Novva, Apple, CyrusOne, and NTT. Amazon is planning two campuses in Mesa, while landowner Pacific Proving is also planning to develop a large campus in the area.. More in Cloud & Hyperscale.
