Nidec develops 300kW in-rack CDU

Japanese firm Nidec has developed a new high-capacity in-rack cooling distribution unit (CDU).. – Nidec. The company this week announced it has developed a prototype In-Rack CDU with a cooling capacity of up to 300kW to cool high-density AI hardware.. The new product is Nidec’s highest-capacity In-Rack cooling solution to date.

The system is compatible with OCP ORV3 rack standards.. The company will debut the new CDU at Interop Tokyo 2026 in Japan this week and aims to commence mass production in the first quarter of 2027.. The firm has two previous generations of in-rack CDU, offering 200kW and 250kW of cooling capacity in a 4U box..

Nidec has also developed a prototype of STC 1.0, a unit that can house up to five in-rack CDUs into one system.. The firm said: “STC 1.0 was developed to achieve a high-level balance between preparing for future scalability and providing an optimal configuration at the time of initial deployment.”.

Founded in 1973, Nidec Corporation (formerly known as Nippon Densan Corporation) is primarily known as a Japanese manufacturer and distributor of electric motors. The firm also develops larger in-row CDUs and cold plates, and makes music boxes.. More in Cooling.
