The data center’s capacity is unclear. QGDC’s site states that the facility will be 100MW, but according to the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation, which has a site about the Karachi Technopolis, the data center will offer 80MW of capacity.. DCD has reached out to QGDC to clarify the capacity of its data center..
QGDC’s CEO is Danish Iqbal, who is also the CEO of the Gul Ahmed Energy Group, a Pakistani energy company that operates a 136MW power plant in the Korangi Industrial Area of Karachi.. The company website states that the data center will be provided with 136MW of “captive power.”.
Chinese tech giant Huawei appears to be involved with the project. In May, QGDC signed a memorandum of understanding with Huawei for “collaboration on the development of what is set to become Pakistan’s largest data center infrastructure,” as well as a separate agreement establishing a “strategic framework for cooperation on the Karachi Technopolis project.”.
