Meta and Reliance are teaming up to build a 168MW data center in the state of Gujarat, India.. The deal will see Indian conglomerate Reliance build the data center, which will be leased to Meta so that it can run AI workloads. The facility, in the city of Jamnagar, could be scaled up in the future, the companies said, but an opening date has not been revealed.. Facebook parent company Meta will cover the cost of power and water required by the data center. It will run on renewable energy and use desalinated seawater.. Meta invested $5.7 billion in Jio Platforms – part of the Reliance group – back in 2020, equating to just under a 10 percent stake. In April 2024, it was reported that the company was considering taking space at a Reliance data center in Chennai, India.. Meta also announced it has purchased more than 900MW of clean energy in India, though it didn’t say whether this will be used for the new data center..
