According to Nikkei, the company has signed a framework investment agreement with the Zhongwei municipal government to build a desert-based data center.

The project is expected to cost around RMB 24.5 billion ($3.6 billion) and span over 534,000 square meters (5.75 million sq ft). The company intends to install around 50,000 standard racks in three phases as it enters the data center market. The project is provisionally scheduled for completion in 2028.

However, the deal is still preliminary and requires various approvals. The initiative fits with China’s ‘Eastern Data, Western Computing’ strategy, which aims to move data centers to western provinces where abundant clean energy and cooler climates can significantly improve cooling efficiency.

Headquartered in Shanghai, JinkoSolar is one of the world’s largest solar module manufacturers. Jinko Power, its utility-scale solar division, currently has 6.5 GW of installed capacity and a domestic project pipeline exceeding 30 GW. 17 december 2025.
