AWS cloud lead Dave Brown heads to Meta – report

Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) Dave Brown is reportedly heading to Meta.. According to the Wall Street Journal, Brown will report to Meta’s head of infrastructure and focus on the company’s data center buildout. WSJ cites people ‘familiar with the matter.’ DCD has reached out to Meta for confirmation.. – Meta.

That Brown was leaving AWS was confirmed earlier this week by the company in a letter to Amazon employees penned by CEO Matt Garman, in which he acknowledged Brown’s 19-year tenure at AWS.. The note did not disclose Brown’s future plans beyond that he had decided to take “a new role outside of the company.”.

Brown said of his departure: “Looking back over the last 19 years, I can’t imagine having spent them anywhere else. From my early days as a developer working on EC2 – not really understanding what it would become – to having the opportunity to work alongside so many incredibly talented people building technology that millions of customers around the world rely on every day, it has been an extraordinary journey.

What we have achieved together, and continue to achieve, is truly remarkable.”. With Brown’s exit, AWS has appointed Dave Treadwell, current SVP of e-commerce foundation at AWS, as the new lead of the AWS compute and ML services team.. Reports that Meta may have poached Brown come shortly after the social media giant was reported to be planning to enter the cloud computing business..

At the start of the year, the company established a new division dedicated to growing its data center capacity, dubbed “Meta Compute,” which its CEO Mark Zuckerberg said was “planning to build tens of gigawatts this decade, and hundreds of gigawatts or more over time.”. More in Workforce & Skills.
