Parallel Works and CoreWeave partner on cloud platform for DARPA

HPC compute provider Parallel Works and neocloud CoreWeave have partnered on a managed AI and HPC platform for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).. The platform has been deployed and will be used for the Network of Optimal Dynamic Energy Signatures (NODES) program.. – DARPA.

DARPA can access the platform via Parallel Works’ Activate control plane, and it is built on CoreWeave’s AI cloud. The managed platform enables access to large-scale computing, orchestration software, and technical support required for advanced biological modeling and AI..

The managed platform runs on dedicated compute capacity comprised of Nvidia HGX H100 systems on CoreWeave’s platform.. “Breakthrough science shouldn’t be delayed by infrastructure,” said Matthew Shaxted, CEO, Parallel Works. “DARPA needs researchers focused on biology, not on building infrastructure or managing compute environments. By combining CoreWeave’s AI cloud platform with the Activate platform, we’re giving NODES teams immediate access to the AI resources they need so they can spend their time advancing research.”.

Michael Intrator, CoreWeave co-founder and CEO, said: “DARPA takes on many of the country’s toughest technical challenges. Our job is to give researchers the computing power to go after them.”. The NODES project is seeking to develop a deep learning tool informed by the principles of biophysics that can analyze vast numbers of protein sequences and predict their biological functions by identifying telltale patterns of protein movement.

By doing so, DARPA aims to be able to understand potential biological threats and characterize them within an hour.. DARPA put out a tender for a managed HPC solution in April 2026, at the time asking for 50 dedicated, private Nvidia HGX H100 80GB 700W SXM5 8X GPUs, with another 100 “held in reserve for redundancy and surge purposes.”.

Parallel Works was spun out from the Argonne National Laboratory in 2015. The company is headquartered in Chicago and provides managed HPC environments supported across on-prem hardware and cloud providers.. More in Cloud & Hyperscale.
