Google has shifted Chrome to a two-week release cycle starting with version 153, replacing the four-week schedule it adopted in 2021.. The change applies to Chrome on desktop, Android and iOS, and means new features will reach the stable version every two weeks instead of once a month..
Google said the faster cadence is intended to speed delivery of interoperability changes, bug fixes and security patches to users.. The company said the new schedule fits Chrome’s updated security strategy, which uses automated AI tools powered by Gemini to identify and fix vulnerabilities..
Google said shortening the gap between detecting a vulnerability, developing a fix and shipping it to end users would improve protection against fast-moving threats.. More frequent releases will also produce smaller updates that are easier and faster to download, Google said.. Organizations that do not want to follow the two-week cycle can use the Extended Stable channel, which provides security fixes every week and major feature updates every two months..
