MIT spinout turns plastic waste into resilient building materials

There is a demand for additional homes worldwide. The globe is overwhelmed by an excess of plastic as well. The two issues share the challenge of being difficult to resolve, which Atlas Building Composites, a company originating from MIT, aims to tackle with a unified solution.

The firm has created a robotic manufacturing platform powered by AI, which can transform single-use plastics into long-lasting construction materials. This company originated from MIT HAUS, a mechanical engineering research initiative at MIT, which stands for “Home Architecture for Universal Sustainability.” By employing waterless plastic recycling and expansive composite additive manufacturing technology, Atlas produces various components such as dwelling foundations, decks, and wall, floor, and roof trusses.
