Nintendo wins $4.5 million in Switch piracy lawsuit

Nintendo of America won a $4.5 million default judgment against James Williams in a lawsuit over pirated Nintendo Switch games.. Nintendo filed the suit in 2024 and alleged that Williams, known online as Archbox, was the “operator, overseer and driving force behind several Pirate Shops.”.

The court ruled in Nintendo’s favor after Williams did not respond to the lawsuit.. Under the order, Williams must “immediately disable access to all online ‘shops’ that he operates or otherwise controls” that offered extensive libraries of pirated Nintendo Switch games for download..

Williams was reportedly a moderator of the r/SwitchPirates Reddit community. The subreddit remains active, and Aftermath noted that Williams is not currently listed as a moderator.. Featured image credit.
