Google Labs launched Playground on Wednesday, an artificial intelligence platform that lets users create browser-based games through text prompts without coding expertise.. Playground is initially available in the United States to users aged 18 and older. Google plans to expand access to additional countries..
Browsing and playing games in the catalog is free. Game generation uses a weekly token system, with limited tokens for free users and higher usage limits for Google One AI subscribers.. Creators can select a genre, including trivia or racing, or start from scratch.
They can choose 2D or 3D formats and single-player or multiplayer experiences, then describe the mechanics, gameplay and visual style they want.. Users can also upload visuals, which the platform’s AI can turn into game assets matched to the project’s overall art style.. Games work on mobile devices and computers.
Creators can keep projects private, share them through a link or publish them in Playground’s Explore gallery.. Published games can include leaderboards, and creators can continue modifying their projects after release.. Google said it plans to add Unity Spark integration in a future update.
The integration could provide additional 3D capabilities and what Google described as “professional-level” game mechanics through Unity’s technology.. Roblox announced a similar feature, Build, in July, allowing users to create games through natural-language prompts.. Featured image credit.
