Withings and Function Partner to Fuse 160+ Biomarkers with Daily Home Biometrics

Information You Need to Be Aware of. Withings, a leader in health hardware, and Function, a diagnostic platform, have partnered to create a data link between daily health monitoring and clinical lab testing. This integration enables automatic syncing of Withings’ daily data on body composition, muscle mass, fat levels, blood pressure, and sleep stages into the Function app.

Conversely, Function’s extensive range of over 160 biomarker results appears in the Withings app, giving users a continuous overview of their health. This collaboration combines the use of ambient hardware with the power of longitudinal blood intelligence. The integration sets up a constant feedback loop between home-based hardware monitoring and professional-grade diagnostic tests carried out at home:.

Bidirectional Data Exchange: Instead of a unidirectional export, data moves harmoniously between both environments. The readings from Withings smart scales, like the Body Scan and Body Smart series, and blood pressure monitors, like the BPM Vision and BPM Connect, are used to feed data into Function’s Medical Intelligence Lab™ (MI Lab™).

At the same time, Function provides over 160 lab results which include cardiovascular markers such as ApoB and Lp(a), metabolic indicators like fasting insulin and HbA1c, as well as hormone, thyroid, and nutrient panels. These results are displayed directly in the Withings app under the “My Health Panels” section.

Comparing daily trends with the underlying pathophysiology allows members to see how daily behavioral changes affect systemic biology over time. For instance, instead of considering increased systolic blood pressure readings individually, the platform presents these patterns alongside markers of systemic inflammation (high-sensitivity C-reactive protein – hs-CRP) and lipid profiles, providing users with valuable information to discuss during medical consultations.

Regarding accessibility and promotion, the integration is currently accessible to U.S. users, offering incentives for both Withings and Function users: Withings users get a $30 credit towards Function’s $365 annual testing membership (reducing the first-year fee to $335), while active Function members receive a 10% discount on eligible Withings devices. The collaboration’s launch coincides with the growing trend of individuals managing cardiometabolic health and using GLP-1 receptor agonists (like semaglutide and tirzepatide).

Though GLP-1 treatments lead to substantial overall weight loss, there are increasing concerns among clinical endocrinologists and obesity medicine specialists about the composition of this weight loss – particularly the risk of excessive lean muscle mass wasting and decreased bone density. A regular bathroom scale can only measure the total gravitational mass, making users unaware of whether weight loss is due to visceral adipose tissue or functional skeletal muscle.

Combining Withings’ segmental bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), which distinguishes muscle mass, visceral fat, and extracellular water, with Function’s metabolic blood tests (measuring fasting glucose, HbA1c, liver enzymes, and renal function), it is possible for patients and doctors to track body recomposition and metabolic adjustments in real-time.
