Amazon is considering increasing its data center presence in Montgomery County, Missouri, and is holding discussions with local residents in Indiana about a potential project. According to Mid-Missouri Business, a representative from Amazon has informed the county’s commissioners of its plans to expand its data center operations by constructing up to 33 new data center buildings. – Google Maps.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) plans to build data center buildings on a separate 890-acre site, apart from their current campus development in Danville. Although the property hasn’t been acquired, the company aims to construct facilities near Danville. A specific construction timeline is yet to be decided, but it’s anticipated to commence between 2027 and 2029 if the project is approved.
In Montgomery County, AWS is also constructing a 1,000-acre campus in New Florence. The development of AWS will occur in two stages, with the initial phase consisting of the construction of eight data center buildings. In the subsequent stage, it is possible that an additional 13 structures of comparable dimensions may be constructed.
This year, in June, the company announced a plan to invest $10 billion in the campus. Located west of St. Louis and east of Columbia, Montgomery County is the place for this investment.
The biggest data center markets in the state are St. Louis and Kansas City. AWS is considering Posey, Indiana.
In the Midwest, AWS is hosting an open house to discuss a potential project in Posey County, Indiana. Tristate Homepage reports that AWS is considering various properties for the data center and the project is still in its early stages. The region’s appeal lies in CenterPoint Energy’s excess power grid capacity.
Keith Klein, AWS’ director of Data Center Solutions, stated at the open house that they are there to engage with the community and understand their needs for such a large deployment, continuing the conversation. “We welcome the opportunity to engage in that dialogue and urge you not to consider us as an unapproachable entity; we value the input of the community and are eager to collaborate in creating something together.”
