First building at Project Jupiter data center campus in New Mexico topped out

The initial stage of Project Jupiter, a significant data center campus in New Mexico constructed by Stack and Oracle, has reached its peak. Clayco and Kiewit New Mexico Co. recently declared the completion of the initial part of the Project Jupiter data center complex in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, by setting the final structural beam on the building and finishing its main structural framework.

Oracle and Stack have selected a joint venture between Clayco and Kiewit as the general contractors for the initial 93,000-square-foot (79,432 sqm) section of the data center campus. Construction is set to begin in October 2025. Clayco’s president of construction and compute, Ryan McGuire, expressed pride in reaching this milestone in Project Jupiter’s construction, stating that it aligns with their mission to improve life through sustainable, advanced technology infrastructure that meets America’s increasing needs. “With the increasing demand for sophisticated technological infrastructure, Clayco is dedicated to providing top-notch data center solutions that contribute to vast community investments and the generation of numerous skilled employment opportunities.

Moreover, these solutions incorporate on-site power generation and eco-friendly water technologies to reduce the strain on local power grids and water networks.” As revealed previously, the campus covers an area of 1,400 acres and will feature four data center structures, along with micro-grid facilities, natural gas power plants, a battery storage center, and a desalination plant. Upon completion of construction, Oracle will take over the campus and utilize it for hosting OpenAI’s AI infrastructure.

The site may reach a capacity of 2.5GW once fully constructed, but the project has allegedly encountered difficulties in obtaining a natural gas connection. Mike Casey, COO of Stack Infrastructure, stated that achieving this milestone demonstrates the exceptional collaboration and dedication of the teams involved in Project Jupiter.

Since the beginning, our primary goal has been to create essential digital infrastructure, with the aim of providing long-term benefits for Doña Ana County. Project Jupiter showcases the potential for large-scale infrastructure to promote technological advancements, create local employment opportunities, enhance the regional economy, and handle energy and water resources in a sustainable manner.

It is an honor for us to collaborate with Oracle, Clayco, Kiewit, and our regional partners in advancing this significant endeavor.”.
