Apple’s OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro is expected next month

Apple’s upcoming OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro could be “significantly lighter” after changes to its internal components, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported.

Gurman reiterated that the high-end laptop is expected to launch next month alongside Apple’s first iPad mini with an OLED display.

Apple has reportedly miniaturized parts and rearranged components to reduce the laptop’s weight, Gurman said. Details of the new internal layout are not yet known.

Current MacBook Pro models start at 3.4 pounds for the 14-inch version and weigh up to 4.7 pounds for the 16-inch version.

The new laptop is expected to use existing higher-end M5 chips rather than the upcoming M7 chips, which are expected to debut in early 2027.

John Ternus, who recently became Apple’s chief executive, could put greater emphasis on product design given his background as a hardware engineer, according to Gurman. His predecessor was known for supply-chain and logistics expertise.

One of Ternus’s first priorities as CEO was rebuilding Apple’s design teams, which now report directly to him, Gurman added.
