Spotify opens technology portal for business customers

Spotify launched technology.spotify.com on Thursday, formalizing its enterprise and developer tools business with a website offering technology developed internally to outside customers.. The site will house open-source and paid services Spotify built to serve its 777 million monthly active users.

The company said its services will be agent-ready.. Spotify has not disclosed enterprise sales revenue in its financial reporting. The website does not list pricing; prospective customers must fill out a form to contact sales and discuss their needs..

In its announcement, Spotify said it began offering products to the wider technology community in 2020, when it open-sourced Backstage, a platform and framework for building customizable developer portals.. Spotify began selling Confidence, its enterprise-focused software experimentation platform, in 2023, followed by Portal, its enterprise software development platform, in 2024.

Earlier this year, it began selling Xirp, a developer tool for managing AI coding agents.. Tyson Singer, Spotify’s senior vice president of technology and platform, acknowledged questions about the business in a post on its engineering site.. “I get asked a version of this question every day: why is Spotify in the business of selling software?” Singer wrote..

Singer said hundreds of cross-functional squads build and ship products and code behind Spotify’s consumer app.. Spotify is betting development teams will still need core services despite AI advances. Singer wrote that faster software development does not necessarily make the work simpler: “the complexity, the cost and the operational surface area all grow with it.”.
