Equinix has topped out its latest data center in Germany.. Mercury this week announced a topping-out milestone on Equinix’s MU4.3 data center in Munich.. – Mercury Engineering. “This significant milestone paves the way for the internal fit-out to be completed,” the company said, “With a phased fit-out strategy, MU4.3 expands an operational facility and reinforces Munich’s role within Europe’s data landscape.”.
The ceremony was attended by Mercury and Equinix execs and featured the customary raising of a wreath on the roof of the facility.. Equinix opened the first phase at its MU4 data center, located at Dywidagstrasse 10 in Aschheim, in 2022.. The first phase offered 2,250 square meters (24,200 sq ft) of colocation space – equating to around 950 racks of capacity.
Phase II launched around Q2 2024, adding 750 racks. At full build-out, the MU4 site will offer 13,608 sqm (146,475 sq ft) across four stories – equating to capacity for a further 2,950 racks.. Equinix currently has two other data centers – MU1 and MU3 – in operation in the Munich area.
MU1 and MU3 are leased, MU4 is owned by the company.. Mercury Engineering operations director, Eoghan Cremin, said: “Germany has been a consistent market for Mercury for almost two decades. We are proud to be delivering another data center build for a longstanding client in Germany and committed to outcomes that match that responsibility”.
