SpaceXAI considers large-scale data center in Texas – report

SpaceXAI is in talks to build a large data center in Texas.. The Information reports that the SpaceX subsidiary has explored several sites in the state, and aims to deploy compute at a similar or greater scale to its gigawatt Memphis/Mississippi data centers.. – Michael Dell. The company has yet to decide if it will deploy multiple facilities, and whether it will build from scratch or retrofit an existing warehouse..

SpaceXAI has hired for a data center development lead in Austin and Bastrop, Texas, and temporary roles to support its “data center construction, expansion, and operations” in locations including Conroe, Texas.. Conroe is where CEO Elon Musk plans to build a ‘Terafab’ semiconductor factory, for use by both SpaceX and Tesla.

This month, it was revealed that Musk quietly bought mobile gas generation firm APR Energy, which operates in Texas as well as elsewhere.. SpaceXAI’s data centers were initially only used internally for Grok and X workloads, but the company has rapidly morphed into a major neocloud, signing leasing deals with Reflection, Anthropic, and Google.

The company is in talks with the US military as a potential customer.. The expansion of terrestrial data centers comes despite the firm’s long-term ambition to deploy significant compute in space.. 01 Jun 2026
