WIOCC secures $300m to fuel pan-African infrastructure build-out

Pan-African digital infrastructure group WIOCC has secured new investment.. The firm this week announced a $300 million Shareholder Subscription Agreement (SSA) with Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) and Vision International Investment Company (Vision Invest).. – Africa Finance Corporation.

Signed at the LEAP 2026 Global Technology exhibition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the investment will help accelerate the expansion of the company’s digital infrastructure across Africa.. Chris Wood, group CEO of WIOCC, said: “Africa is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the next phase of global digital growth.

This investment enables WIOCC to execute its long-term growth strategy by accelerating data center deployment and consolidation, expanding the continent’s open-access terrestrial fiber footprint and investing strategically in new subsea assets, strengthening Africa’s digital infrastructure platform and enhancing connectivity between the continent and key international markets.’. Formed in 2008, African wholesale network firm WIOCC is part of consortia for the EASSy, EIG, WACS, TE North, SEA-ME-WE 5, and the Facebook-led 2Africa cable systems.

The company also owns OADC, a data center operator with six hyperscale data centers and more than 30 Edge sites across South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Nigeria.. AFC is a pan-African Multilateral Development Financial Institution focused on infrastructure investments that was founded in 2007.

The firm has invested more than $11.5 billion in infrastructure projects across the continent to date. Vision Invest (formerly ACWA Holding) is a Saudi Arabian infrastructure investment and development company.. Our investment in WIOCC will expand the open-access digital backbone African businesses and communities need to integrate, innovate and compete globally.”. Omar N. Previous investors in WIOCC include Uganda Telecom, Dalkom Somalia, Djibouti Telecom, Mozambique Telecom (TMCEL), Zanzibar Telecom (Zantel), Botswana Fibre Networks (BoFiNet), Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA), ONATEL, TelOne, and Telkom Kenya. International Finance Corporation (IFC) and African Capital Alliance (ACA) have previously provided funding to the firm..
