Is two-phase direct-on-chip cooling capable of assisting AI data centers in handling increasing GPU power requirements while decreasing energy usage? This document conducts a standalone, apples-to-apples assessment of Accelsius’ NeuCool® two-phase cooling system compared to conventional single-phase liquid cooling on a Dell PowerEdge XE9680L server that has eight NVIDIA B200 GPUs.

The evaluation covers around 40K operating points and demonstrates that NeuCool offers enhanced thermal performance, reduced coolant flow demands, and superior operating flexibility under strenuous AI workloads. Some main observations are:. Lower GPU temperatures: Downstream GPU cold plate temperatures can decrease by up to 19°C.

Lower heat resistance: A 48% decrease in comparison to single-phase cooling. Increased heat tolerance: GPU junction temperatures reduced by up to 14°C under designated operating conditions. Potential annual energy savings of 36-56% can be achieved by utilizing warmer facility water and taking advantage of more free-cooling opportunities.
