Apple launches $299 Apple TV 4K with A19 chip and Siri AI

Apple launched a $299 Apple TV 4K streaming device with an A19 chip, updated Siri AI for content discovery and microphones for voice commands without a remote.

Preorders opened today, with availability set for November 13. The model arrives four years after the previous Apple TV 4K launched in 2022.

The A19 chip supports AI features. Three far-field microphones let users speak to Siri without a remote or paired HomePod.

Siri AI is rolling out across Apple platforms, with Apple planning to use it on Apple TV for personalization and content recommendations. Viewers can search by asking, “Which Apple TV shows won at the Emmy Awards this year?” or request information such as, “Where was ‘Pluribus’ filmed?”

Apple said users can create a four-speaker surround-sound setup with Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini 2 or HomePod 2 speakers.

The updated remote includes a small speaker to help users locate it. Apple added remote-location features through Siri and Find My in 2023, but those provided directions in an app rather than an audible sound.

Google and Amazon have also added AI-powered content suggestions in recent years.

Bloomberg reported that Apple had planned to launch the device in 2024, but delays in launching AI-powered Siri pushed back the release of new home devices.
