The bank said the new facility “marks a significant milestone in strengthening the technological foundation of India’s financial system.”

Ground was broken on the 18.5-acre development at Info Valley-II in March 2023. According to a presentation shown during the ceremony, the new data center has capacity for 700 racks and will support the bank’s payment processes and systems acting as a backup site to its primary facility in Navi Mumbai.

The site has been certified to Tier IV standards by Uptime. The complex also features 590kW of on-site solar capacity.

Established in 1935, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is the central bank of India. It is headquartered in Mumbai. It has another data center in Kharghar in Navi Mumbai.

Prime Minister Modi described the facility as a reflection of India’s changing approach to governance focused on taking the benefits of economic development to every region and every citizen. He emphasized that a secure banking system needs secure digital infrastructure supported by robust data centers and powerful computing systems, and RBI’s new data center is a critical step in this direction.
