Spotify began rolling out a beta feature called Taste Profile to Premium subscribers in the United States on Wednesday, letting users directly adjust recommendations in the app’s Home feed.. The feature is available to listeners aged 18 and older in Spotify’s largest market by traffic and revenue, after an earlier beta launch in New Zealand..
Taste Profile lets users see how Spotify interprets their preferences across music and other audio, including podcasts and audiobooks, and then request changes using natural language prompts.. Spotify unveiled the feature in March at the SXSW conference in Austin, where co-CEO Gustav Söderström introduced it as an AI-powered tool..
The tool affects the recommendation system behind products such as Discover Weekly, Made for You suggestions and Spotify Wrapped, giving users more control over what the platform surfaces.. Users can ask Spotify for more variety, or more or less of a particular genre, artist or mood.
The feature can also be used to limit recommendations shaped by listening habits that do not reflect a user’s broader interests, such as sleep sounds or music played by children or teenagers on a shared account.. Spotify previously allowed users to exclude certain tracks or playlists from influencing recommendations.
It also recently added a toggle to stop kids’ music from affecting parents’ suggestions.. To use Taste Profile in the mobile app, users tap their profile picture, scroll to Taste Profile, and enter a request under “Tell us more.” Spotify said changes to the Home page suggestions should appear after a few hours..
Spotify said the feature can also help users explore a new genre or era, shift the overall vibe of recommendations, or better tailor podcast and audiobook suggestions.. Taste Profile remains in beta, and Spotify did not provide a timeline for a wider release.. Featured image credit.
