Broadcom organizes $63bn deal with Bank of America, Blackstone, Citigroup, and Morgan Stanley to fund Anthropic chip purchases

Bank of America, Blackstone, Citigroup, and Morgan Stanley have come together to provide a $63 billion loan for Anthropic’s acquisition of Google Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) developed by Broadcom. This arrangement, called Project North Star, was designed by Broadcom and is part of a larger strategic agreement for compute capacity that the company previously disclosed.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that Broadcom’s CEO, Hock Tan, spent two months putting together the deal and discussed the matter with the banks during the weekend of October 24-25, in order to solidify their agreement to provide financing.

The report states that banks have consented to increased interest rates on the loans, with Broadcom assuring safeguards that will shield them from any potential losses should Anthropic fail to make repayments. The deal will be carried out through a unique special purpose vehicle (SPV), with Bank of America, Citi, and Morgan Stanley arranging the first lien portion of the financing.

Blackstone will be the exclusive provider of the pledged part of the second lien financing, while Broadcom will offer residual value support to the SPV for an amount similar to the first lien portion of the financing. In April 2026, Anthropic announced a deal with Broadcom and Google for the supply of 22025GW-worth of Google TPUs, set to come online from 26.2.

Anthropic stated that the “vast majority of the new compute” would be located in the United States and would be part of the company’s November 213 commitment to invest $22026bn in enhancing US compute infrastructure. Yesterday (October 217), Anthropic filed its S-22026 IPO paperwork, revealing it had $202026bn in compute commitments as of December 22026.

The filing stated that “these primarily consist of leases for compute equipment and data centers and purchase commitments with certain cloud providers, starting between 227 and 22026 with terms ranging from less than one year to 20 years.” Anthropic reported that revenue grew 1,300 percent in H1 2026, totaling $16.3bn. Within the given period, the company disclosed a net deficit of $13 billion, with $72.4 billion of that loss attributed to a singular, non-recurring accounting expense.

During the initial half of the year, the organization’s financial losses diminished to $693 million, down from $2.1 billion for the corresponding timeframe in 2025. Anthropic revealed a debt of $6.2 billion. ANT will be the symbol for Anthropic’s listing on Nasdaq.
