Edge AI chip startup Axelera AI has said it will be using a “new product naming framework” for its hardware portfolio.. In a statement, the company said the move brings all the company’s products under the Axelera master brand and will see the chips “identified by what they are optimized for.”.
“Going forward, every product carries the Axelera master brand, followed by an optimization descriptor and a short number,” the company explained.. The hardware will now sit under the names Axelera Embedded, Axelera Edge, and Axelera Server, followed by the number 1 for its first-generation product Metis, 2 for its second Europa, and 3 for its forthcoming Titania chip..
A second number will then follow to signify the optimization name, with a third digit to help distinguish the chip’s relative performance. A final “trailing lower-case letter” will indicate the form factor of the hardware.. For example, the Metis Compute Board will now be known as Axelera Embedded 111c, while the Metis PCIe (1-chip) has become Axelera Edge 130p..
“Importantly, this is a naming update rather than a product change,” Axelera said. “The new naming convention does not impact the silicon, products, or software tools built on the company’s Metis architecture, which is already in-market and used by hundreds of customers.“.
Launched in 2021, Axelera AI develops AI processing units (AIPUs) that allow AI software to be run at the network Edge, as opposed to inside data centers. Built on RISC-V and D-IMC architecture to provide faster data processing and retrieval, the company says that by deploying its technology at the Edge, it speeds up both AI inference and interactions..
Since its founding, the company has raised $450 million in capital from investors including BlackRock, Bitfury, the European Investment Council Fund, and the Samsung Catalyst Fund.. More in IT Hardware & Semiconductors. 05 May 2026.
