The space enterprise, Cowboy Space Corporation, initiated by Robinhood co-founder Baiju Bhatt, has unveiled its initial rocket, aptly named “Big Iron.”. The Cowboy Space Corporation has developed a versatile machine that functions as a medium-lift launcher and a megawatt-class orbital data center (ODC) via an upper stage transformation.
In addition to serving internal customers, the company aims to provide its ‘Big Iron Express’ service to external clients in the US for payloads that go beyond computing. The first flight of ‘Big Iron’ is scheduled for 2028, with plans to quickly expand the ‘Galactic Brain’ constellation afterwards.
The rocket has been designed specifically for the task of placing their own data centers into a sun-synchronous orbit. “That significantly reduces the issue,” Bhatt informed DCD. “We have opted for well-established concepts instead of new ones.” Steel that does not rust, a gas composed of methane and oxygen, and landing equipment that provides a boost, have all been proven effective. The gas-generator engine is the swiftest verified cycle to create.
It’s not the most high-performing engine globally, and it doesn’t need to be. “Our group has previously achieved this at the organizations which pioneered it.”.
