Nxera Singapore, an APAC data center developer, has partnered with Sembcorp, a Singaporean energy company, to provide renewable, low-carbon energy for its data centers in Singapore. This collaboration was facilitated by Getty Images. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by the firms to investigate possible energy solutions, such as low-carbon hydrogen-based power generation, biomethane-based power generation, vertical building-integrated photovoltaics, and renewable energy imports from the 2.2GW floating solar project at Linggiu Reservoir in Johor, Malaysia.
Koh Chiap Khiong, the president & CEO of Gas and Related Services and CEO of Singapore, Sembcorp, commented on the agreement, stating that “As artificial intelligence adoption speeds up worldwide, the need for dependable, scalable, and lower-carbon energy keeps rising.” Having demonstrated a successful history in fueling the data center industry, Sembcorp is advantageously situated to facilitate this expansion via our varied energy resources. Our collaboration with Nxera strengthens our joint commitment to facilitating the development of modern digital infrastructure and accelerating the worldwide shift towards cleaner energy.
Bill Chang, the CEO of Nxera and Singtel’s Digital InfraCo unit, stated, “Collaborating with Sembcorp enables us to expand our operations sustainably and responsibly by providing us with additional choices for powering our growth.” It will be essential for Nxera to bolster its energy resilience in Singapore, as this will not only contribute to its long-term growth but also assist Singapore in achieving its digital objectives. Singtel Group’s AI data center division, Nxera Singapore, is the focus of our discussion.
Singtel is shutting down several minor outdated data centers in Singapore, while continuing to manage multiple substantial facilities in the city via its subsidiary.
