Meta signs 1.6GW capacity agreement with Crusoe – report

Meta has reportedly signed on to secure 1.6GW of compute capacity from Crusoe.. As per a report from Bloomberg, Meta has signed contracts to buy capacity from Crusoe’s Childress, Texas, and Warrenton, Missouri, locations.. – Meta. The two sites combined will total 1.6GW.

The value of the agreement has not been shared.. DCD has contacted both Meta and Crusoe for comment.. Earlier this month, Crusoe revealed that its contracted AI infrastructure capacity had reached 4.9GW, spanning its data center projects and capacity for Crusoe Cloud, its AI cloud platform, while its total development pipeline exceeds 40GW.

It, however, recently pulled out of a project in Wyoming.. Crusoe is behind the 1.2GW campus in Abilene, Texas, which was built for Oracle and leased to OpenAI on land owned by Lancium. Crusoe recently began construction on a further 900MW campus at the same site for use by Microsoft.

Meta was also previously said to be in talks for the capacity that Microsoft snapped up.. While Crusoe does not specifically list a project in Childress on its site, the company has said it is contracted to build two additional “large-scale campuses in Texas and a fifth in Missouri with each of the projects in various stages of site work and construction.”.

Lancium, which worked with Crusoe on the Abilene site, has a project listed for Childress. The project page states that the site has a 1GW interconnect that has been fully approved by ERCOT.. The Warrenton campus, meanwhile, is planned for a plot of land at 22151 NW Service Road, Warrenton.

The campus will be built on an approximately 340-acre land parcel, and it will consist of two 805,000 sq ft (74,786 sqm) data center buildings and a 40,000 sq ft (3,716 sqm) administration building.. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently revealed that it was looking at the possibility of launching its own cloud computing offering.

The company has been significantly increasing its compute capacity, and at the start of the year, the company established a new division dedicated to growing its data center capacity, dubbed “Meta Compute,” which Zuckerberg said was “planning to build tens of gigawatts this decade, and hundreds of gigawatts or more over time.”. In addition to building its own data centers, the company has signed capacity agreements with cloud and neocloud providers..

With Nebius, Meta has signed a $27bn cloud agreement, which will initially include a $12bn agreement over five years, starting in 2027, a $21bn agreement with fellow neocloud CoreWeave, and a “multi-billion-dollar” agreement with AWS to use the cloud’s Graviton5 AI chips..
