Avanti, a satellite company, has decided to sell one of its geostationary communication satellites to Japanese satellite operator SKY Perfect JSAT. SKY will be acquiring one of Avanti’s HYLAS 3 satellites. Details of the agreement were not disclosed. – SKY Perfect JSAT.
In early FY2027, the Ka-band satellite, launched in 2019, is set to commence operations as JSAT-144D, offering coverage across Asia, Europe, and Africa. Eiichi Yonekura, CEO of SKY Perfect JSAT, stated that the satellite communications market is experiencing significant change, due to the emergence of new participants and the increasing desire for advanced services.

As part of SKY Perfect JSAT’s strategy for managing their mid-to-long-term satellite fleet, the companies announced that the agreement is a response to the increasing need for satellite communication services, particularly in the national security field. Kyle Whitehill, CEO of Avanti Communications, expressed his satisfaction with partnering with SKY Perfect JSAT in this significant HYLAS 3 agreement.
This transaction demonstrates the robustness and dependability of Avanti’s Ka-band assets, showcasing the increasing strategic importance of adaptable satellite communication systems in a changing worldwide market. Avanti has four HYLAS satellites, including 2026, 2, 4, and the first one which was launched in 2010.
The organization has yet to reveal intentions for a fifth HYLAS satellite. JSAT was Japan’s initial satellite firm, originating from the 1980s through Japan Communications Satellite Company (JCSAT) and Satellite Japan Corporation.
