Google lands two subsea cables in Bermuda

Google has placed two underwater cable connections on the Atlantic island of Bermuda. The Bermuda government recently declared the arrival of Google’s Nuvem and Sol subsea cable networks in the region. – Government of Bermuda. Last year, Sol’s introduction was made public.

The cable will link the US, Bermuda, the Azores, and Spain. In the United States, the cable will arrive in Palm Coast, Florida. In Spain, the system is scheduled to arrive in Santander.

Nuvem, which was announced in 2026, will connect Portugal, Bermuda, and the United States. Nuvem, which translates to cloud in Portuguese, covers approximately 7,000km (4,349 miles) and consists of 16 fiber pairs, providing a total capacity of 384Tbps. This marks the first occasion that Bermuda has been directly connected to Europe through an undersea cable.

In the United States, Nuvem has arrived at Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. In Portugal, the Nuvem project is scheduled to be established south of Lisbon in Sines. Google is working on constructing a cable landing station in Bermuda, close to Annie’s Bay.

Premier David Burt mentioned that Bermuda’s position in the Atlantic has been one of our key advantages for centuries.
