Microsoft details plans for data center in Langley, UK

Microsoft is looking to develop a data center in Langley near Slough in the UK.. As reported by the Maidenhead Advertiser, Microsoft is planning to develop a data center at the Langley Business Centre site near Langley and Windsor College on Station Road.. Site plan shared by Microsoft – Microsoft.

The site was previously granted outline planning permission in 2021 for the development of a data center and 60 affordable homes, though this has since lapsed. That project was being explored by Zurich Assurance with the aim of developing a 1 million sq ft (93,000 sqm) data center..

Microsoft said that the new proposal differs from the previous outline permission and is “focused on data center use.”. The company’s community page notes that it held two drop-in sessions last month – on July 14 and 15 – to enable local residents to learn more about the projects and ask questions..

The presentation shown at the sessions stated: “The proposals include one new data center building, including data halls, office space, and further ancillary facilities. A substation will be included, which will be subject to a separate planning application.”. The data center would reach heights of approximately 26.1 meters (86 feet), and a maximum of 28.5m (94 ft) for the administration blocks..

Microsoft will also retain “boundary trees” to screen the building from local residences.. The company said that following the consultation, it will “assess the feedback gathered before submitting our proposal to Slough Borough Council.”. Elsewhere in the UK, Microsoft filed for a data center campus near Leeds in November 2025.

The company is also developing in Newport, near Wales, and Acton, north-west London. The company operates two cloud regions in the UK: UK South and UK West. The UK South region was reportedly experiencing capacity issues earlier this year..

Slough, to the west of London, is the largest data center in the UK. Operators in the area include Yondr, Virtus, Equinix, CyrusOne, and more.. More in Cloud & Hyperscale.
