Malaysian semiconductor designer Key ASIC has signed an agreement with Hong Kong-based investment firm CT Vision to develop a green AI data center in Malaysia.. The two companies signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last week, outlining a strategic partnership to build and operate the data center, including plans for dedicated renewable energy generation to fully power the facility.. – Thinkstock / rudall30.
The facility has a planned total IT load of approximately 300MW within five years of its launch and will be purpose built for AI and machine learning workloads, as well as supercomputing and enterprise cloud services.. Key ASIC said the partnership will deliver an “end-to-end sustainable AI infrastructure ecosystem,” integrating dedicated green energy generation.
It will target 100 percent renewable energy penetration, with a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) ratio less than or equal to 1.2.. The MoU includes a ten-year confidentiality clause. Feasibility studies, site planning, and engineering and commercial structuring are being planned to take place by the end of the year..
“This partnership represents a paradigm shift: we are not merely constructing a data centre, but building a green energy-to-AI ecosystem,” said Eg Kah Yee, executive chairman and CEO of Key ASIC. “By building and generating our own green energy specifically for AIDC use, we achieve exceptional energy security, long-term cost competitiveness and full ESG accountability.
Aligned with relevant national and state government authorities, this project underscores Malaysia’s strategic advantage as a premier destination for sustainable AI infrastructure in Southeast Asia.”. Lian Mingcheng, executive director of CT Vision, added: “Malaysia offers outstanding renewable resources, strategic geographic location and stable policy environment – ideal for next-generation AI infrastructure.”.
“Combining Key ASIC’s local market mastery, semiconductor innovation and strong alignment with regulatory and development authorities, with our global capital and green technology strengths creates a new benchmark for sustainable development. We are proud to jointly deliver a project that aligns with the highest global environmental standards while supporting the rapid growth of the regional digital economy.”.
Founded in 2005, Key ASIC is a designer of semiconductors, application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), and energy-efficient computing. The company says it is currently investing in IoT, blockchain, and AI.. CT Vision has a range of international investments, with a focus on AI, 5G, IoT, biomedicine, and the development and operation of clean energy..
