Google on Thursday introduced a password manager switching feature on Android that lets users move passwords and passkeys to a new app without downloading CSV files.. The feature is available on devices running Android 8 or later and is already live with select partners and Google’s own password manager app..
Supported password managers currently include Bitwarden, 1Password and Dashlane, with more apps to be added later.. Under the new system, users open their new password manager app and choose to import or copy passwords from their old manager app. Android then detects password manager apps on the device and coordinates the transfer between them..
Users can review the information being moved and approve the transfer in a few taps.. The system also supports passkey transfers, which means users do not need to set up passkeys again when changing password manager apps.. Google said the approach reduces the risk of exposing data through a CSV file during migration..
