Worldwide PC shipments fell 20.1 percent from a year earlier to 62.7 million units in the third quarter of 2026, International Data Corporation reported.. Shipments declined 9.1 percent from the second quarter of 2026. IDC attributed weaker demand partly to supply issues and elevated prices.
“Channels are now worried about carrying too much inventory into a market where high prices are suppressing demand,” said Jitesh Ubrani, IDC’s research director for consumer devices.. Ubrani said inventory concerns could prompt promotions and temporary price relief for consumers, but prices were not expected to return anywhere near their levels a year earlier..
“Prices will remain elevated. With macro conditions worsening, the risk is that the outlook for the next few quarters gets worse before it gets better,” he said. IDC reported the first decline in PC shipments in nine quarters in July 2026.
That came a few months after it lowered its forecast for the overall 2026 PC market.. IDC advised computer and component shoppers able to postpone purchases to wait at least another year, in the hope that prices would normalize.. Featured image credit.
