A new data center has opened on reservation land in the Hoopa Valley Reservation in California to support a new tribally owned broadband network.. Hoopa Valley Public Utilities District (HVPUD) opened its new NTIA Data Center on July 17.. The new facility is part of the Hoopa Valley Tribe’s broadband efforts to expand fiber-to-the-home Internet access throughout the Hoopa Valley Reservation, Willow Creek, and Trinity County.. – Acorn Connected.

“The NTIA Data Center will serve as the operational hub for the broadband network, housing the equipment needed to monitor, manage, and deliver service to homes and businesses throughout the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation and surrounding areas,” said Acorn Connected, the tribe’s Internet service provider under HVPUD. “It will be the dedicated home for Acorn Connected and support the network’s long-term growth and reliability.”.

Full details of the new data center, located in Hoopa on the corner of Loop Road and Campus Road, were not shared.. The Hoopa Valley Tribe is a tribal government serving the Hoopa Valley people, a Native American people based in northwest California, largely around Hoopa in Humboldt County..

“This is truly a great day for the Hoopa Valley Tribe, for the department and for the Hoopa people,” said Hoopa Valley Tribal vice chairman, Jordan Hailey. “It makes me proud as a Hoopa Tribal member and a member of this community to see everything that they’ve accomplished.”.

Acorn Connected’s Hoopa Trail Project aims to provide last-mile broadband service to the tribe’s ancestral territory in Willow Creek and locations along Highway 299 in Trinity County. The project is being developed using funding from the California Public Utilities Commission’s (CPUC) Last Mile Federal Funding Account (LMFFA) Program..

General Manager of HVPUD, Linnea Jackson, added: “We’ve increased our technology, and we’re looking to have our community support us in our next fiber journey, starting with this data center. It’s going to be our hub. It’s going to be for our customer base, and it’s for our Hoopa people.”.
