Indonesian telecoms operator Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison has paired with the wider Ooredoo Group, Nokia, and Nvidia to launch Zankore by Indosat as it aims to deploy up to 1GW of AI data center capacity.. The carrier has been vocal about its ambitions around building infrastructure to support the demands of AI workloads in the past, with a particular focus on positioning Indonesia as a key AI hub.. – Indosat.
Indosat notes that Zankore “lays the foundation for one of the region’s largest AI infrastructure platforms, which will enable the next phase of agentic and enterprise AI adoption at scale.”. The project will see Indosat eventually deploy 1GW of Nvidia DSX infrastructure capacity..
To support this, Nokia will provide its AI networking, while Nvidia will provide its GPU hardware and AI software. These three companies notably paired last year to launch an AI-RAN research center in the country.. Meanwhile, Ooredoo Group will provide long-term capital for the project, which aims to accelerate AI innovation across Asia-Pacific.
In a separate announcement, Ooredoo said it was investing $800 million to help develop Zankore.. Ooredoo Group, via its data center spin-off Syntys, already operates 26 data centers across the Middle East.. 200MW of capacity by first half of next year.
Zankore is targeting approximately 200 megawatts (MW) of AI capacity in the first half of 2027, which will be powered by Nvidia GB300 NVL72.. According to Indosat, this will also incorporate Nvidia DSX MaxLPS, which dynamically optimizes power across the GPU fleet to recover stranded power and increase compute capacity within the available facility power envelope.
The company claims that MaxLPS is designed to enable up to 40 percent more compute within the same power budget, which increases Zankore’s capacity to serve customers and generate revenue.. “As enterprises move from AI experimentation to mission-critical deployment, they need more than computing power; they need an integrated AI ecosystem,” said Vikram Sinha, president director and chief executive officer of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison. “By bringing together the full AI stack, from models such as Sahabat-AI to intelligent network capabilities including AI Grid and AI-RAN, Zankore by Indosat provides the trusted foundation to accelerate AI adoption at scale.”. “As AI expands into the physical world, countries and enterprises are increasingly focused on building sovereign AI capabilities that are secure, scalable and trusted.
Achieving that requires intelligent orchestration of compute, connectivity and control across AI factories, data centers and the Edge,” added Justin Hotard, president and CEO of Nokia.. A board of directors for Zankore has been established to support its long-term plans. This is made up of Ooredoo’s Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo and Thomas Chevanne, Sinha and Vishal Gupta representing Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, and Arijit Ranjan Sarker as an independent director, while T-Mobile’s former president of technology, Ulf Ewaldsson, is installed as CEO..
Sinha has previously told DCD that Indosat is well-positioned to support AI computing power through its portfolio of data centers, which are equipped with Nvidia chipsets.. In 2022, it teamed up with BDx Data Center and Lintasarta to form a data center joint venture (JV). The agreement, valued at the time at around $300m (IDR4.8tn), marked BDx’s entry into the Indonesian data center market.
The companies said the JV was formed to “meet Indonesia’s growing need for a higher level of global data center facilities.”. It comes as CoreWeave announced plans earlier this week to expand into Indonesia with plans for three data centers in the country. The company plans to launch 360MW of data center capacity in Indonesia..
