Microsoft signs two PPAs with Macquarie-backed Blueleaf Energy in Japan

Microsoft has entered into two Solar Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) in Japan with Blueleaf Energy, a portfolio company of Macquarie Asset Management. – Blueleaf Energy. The information about the PPA is scarce, and the businesses have not revealed the solar farm’s size, agreement duration, or site.

DCD has requested additional details. The agreements, organized by Macquarie’s Energy Markets and Customer Solutions group, entail Microsoft purchasing the energy from the projects exclusively. The undisclosed projects are undergoing construction through a build-own-operate model, with plans to commence commercial operations by mid-2027.

Ed Northam, the global head of MAM Green Investments, stated that these agreements signify a bond that has evolved due to successful collaboration across various markets. We are delighted to collaborate with Microsoft once more, providing bespoke clean energy solutions that align with its business objectives and cater to the escalating worldwide need for affordable, low-carbon electricity that can be promptly supplied. “Microsoft and our alliance transcend a mere business deal; it represents a mutual plan for an eco-friendly future devoid of carbon emissions.” By connecting the energy landscapes of Japan and India, we establish a new standard for how combining local knowledge and teamwork can expedite the construction of essential new power resources.

The emergence of these new PPAs in Japan is a result of the trust established following our successful completion of the Pachora Hybrid Power Project in India,” commented Raghuram Natarajan, CEO of Blueleaf Energy. Blueleaf Energy holds a significant position in the Japanese solar sector, boasting a portfolio of approximately 1.2GW worth of projects at different phases of implementation.
